Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend both, of course! The Wet Erase Pen is best for things that don't need to be updated often, like your Ability Scores. The Dry Erase Pen is better for things that change often, like hit points or spell slots. Regardless of which pen you choose, you'll find a smooth writing surface on your HeroBook that wipes clean after every use. The dry erase pen includes a felt eraser nib to easily erase, but is more prone to accidental smudging. The wet erase pen requires a small amount of moisture to erase, but is highly smudge-resistant.
No! Although we've sourced our favorite high-quality fine point Staedtler pens - they're the best, trust us! - you can use any non-permanent wet- or dry-erase pen or marker with your HeroBook's reusable surfaces. We do not recommend Pilot Frixion pens as the heat required for erasing may damage the reusable surface.
We tested a variety of different surfaces to find the optimal surface for both wet- and dry-erase pens. The 1.5mil polypropylene laminate takes non-permanent ink well and wipes clean months after being written. For continued performance of the reusable surfaces, we recommend pressing lightly when writing and using only non-permanent wet- or dry-erase pens. To clean, wipe gently with a soft cloth and a very small amount of moisture only if necessary.
Your HeroBook contains two reusable surfaces: one inside the front cover, and one inside the back cover. The rest of the pages inside your HeroBook are high-quality post-consumer recycled satin finish paper without the polypropylene laminate - these take ink well and do not bleed, but are not reusable.
Because the two sides of the folded cover do not shift much with respect to each other, you will not experience much lateral smudging of dry erase ink when the book is closed. If the closed book has weight on top of it for an extended period, you will occasionally get a little bit of transfer of dry erase ink over to the other side of the sheet. Wet erase ink will not smudge whatsoever unless moisture is introduced.
